From Scholastic Book Fairs to Olympic Water Bottles, here's what made growing up in Canada so special.
"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
Ferris Bueller's philosophy ruminates strongly when it comes to nostalgia. Growing up in the early and mid-2000s, life was pretty simple. A world is slowly creeping into the increasing presence of technology while still surrounded by Blu-ray DVDs, Razor Scooters, Webkinz, and more.
For Canadians, our nostalgia takes different forms; if you lived in Canada during this early 2000s time period, you'll be familiar with them. Take a gander down memory lane at some pieces of childhood that will make you want to pull out the Nintendo DS.
Treehouse TV
"You're watching Treehouse," a jingle that brought joy to my 6-year-old self as I sat on the couch, eyes glued to our TV. Designed for preschool children, Treehouse is owned by Corus Entertainment and was home to many of your probable favourite childhood shows, such as Max and Ruby, the Berenstain Bears, Toopy and Binoo, Roll Play, and more. The channel is still up and running, featuring new shows and old favourites for the next generation of kids to enjoy.

Nestle Dibs Ice Cream
Picture this: it's 2011 on a hot July day, boredom creeping over you now that your friends have gone on their family vacations. In the distance, you hear the siren song of the ice cream truck. You run to your bedroom, grab your piggy bank coins and dash outside to catch the car. Featured on the side is a new item: Dibs. You've only heard about this product from the whispers of your friends, so you take a chance, and suddenly, your world has changed.
Unfortunately, Dibs are no longer available in Canada, to the dismay of many nationwide. There is no direct reason why Dibs was discontinued in Canada, but one can theorize that it may have been due to changes in the market and cost-related factors.

McDonald's Vancouver 2010 Olympics Collectable Water Bottles
Vancouver in 2010 was a time of zeitgeist. The Winter Olympics were in town, and spirits were high. From red mittens to beloved mascots, the 2010 Olympics merchandise is a legacy in its own right. However, similar to how McDonald's participates in campaigns like the Minecraft Movie and the Bestie Meal, they also had a moment with the Vancouver Olympics. For some time, McDonald's has sold collectible aluminum water bottles with prints featuring various Winter sports. The products were only available in Canada.

Scholastic Book Fairs
One of the most wonderful times of the year was when the Scholastic Book Fair rolled up at my elementary school. For a bookworm like myself, seeing the school's gym decked out in rows of books for all ages galore still makes my heart flutter. Another layer on top of the Scholastic Book Fair cake was the flyers they would send out to the class, then spending time circling every book I wanted to buy.
