From its humble beginnings in Taiwan to Michelin recognition and global acclaim, Din Tai Fung has officially landed in Vancouver and locals are already calling it a hit. The beloved chain, known for its delicate xiao long bao (soup dumplings) and standard for perfection, opened its first Canadian location in early April. The reception? Vancouverities are DTF!

Known worldwide for its near-surgical precision and open-kitchen theatrics, Din Tai Fung has long enjoyed cult status among foodies. Now, Vancouverites are getting a taste for themselves, the hype around this hotspot has exploded. Diners have taken to Instagram and TikTok to document every aspect of the experience, from the honey lemon ice tea at the beginning of the meal to the Chocolate & Mochi Xiao Long Bao to cap the experience.
Din Tai Fung's Chocolate & Mochi Xiao Long Bao have garnered their own buzz, and are described by the restaurant as "Decadent, premium chocolate truffle enveloped in a thin layer of mochi—wrapped with painstaking attention into our signature 18 folds. A burst of chocolate lava in every bite."

Though it’s an international chain, Din Tai Fung’s Vancouver outpost manages to achieve a "home-y" feel. The décor is modern but warm, and the menu pays homage to its Taiwanese roots. Dishes like the crispy wontons, cucumber salad, and spicy sesame noodles have quickly become crowd favourites. It’s a careful blend of tradition and innovation that sets Din Tai Fung apart from other restaurant franchises.
With its roaring success in Vancouver, the question is likely not if Din Tai Fung will expand, but when and where. For now, though, locals are just happy to have one of the world’s most celebrated dumpling destinations in their own backyard and they’re showing up in droves to prove it.
